Most fights happen when one person does something that the other wasn’t expecting. It can also be the other way around when a person fails to do something that the other was relying on. In all relationships, you can resolve a lot of conflicts before they happen if you set the proper expectations at the start. Each person would know what is expected of them, and what behaviors they can expect from others as well.
And the same thing goes for work relationships. Today let's talk about setting expectations properly at work. Most businesses do this by creating a Code of Discipline. And that is exactly what our reader, Ely, is going thru when he asked:
"Atty, what are the things that would guide us when establishing a Code of Discipline both for start-ups and for companies with existing codes?"
Today, we’ll share some thoughts that would make the creation and implementation of a Code of Discipline easier. Stay tuned.

Welcome to Legal Guide Philippines where we simplify the law to help you make better choices. I'm Atty. Ramon Ramirez and I’re with my partner, Atty. Erwin Zagala.
So today, we’re talking about the code of discipline. Atty. Erwin, I think this can also be called a Code of conduct, company manual, operational manual, or handbook. But I think it all points to the same thing.
Yes, It’s a collection of rules, systems, and guidelines that guide the way employees should behave at work. So, let’s talk about 3 points that people should definitely know about it.
Is this required - no - safety net is available in labor code
Is this recommended -yes - an opportunity to define everyday life for our business
Should you be stressed writing it? No - ever-changing and one step at a time
For most of you, this lesson was more than enough, and if it makes your life easier then you're welcome.
But there are those of you who will watch this lesson and end up asking more questions such as attorney how do we create better rules? What topics should we include? How to we implement the penalties once the rules are broken? If that's you then I invite you to check out "The Complete Employee Discipline System" book where we teach you a road map for handling employee discipline cases from start to finish. Get the book at info.legalguide.ph/discipline today.
To add to that. If you want us to tackle your question in our show, go to www.legalguide.ph and click the Submit topic button. Next of course we'd like to know what's your biggest takeaway from today's video, so please write it down in the comments and let's talk about it. One last thing... when your team gets big enough, rules become essential. That’s because people have different ideas of what good behavior looks like. Save them from unknowingly violating some of the management’s expectations, let’s inform them via a proper Handbook so that literally, everybody’s on the same page when it comes to workplace behavior.
So wasn't that simple? Now go make better choices.
