Welcome to Legal Guide Philippines and this is our pilot episode. I'm Attorney Erwin Zagala and I'm with my partner, Atty Ramon Ramirez. Since we'll be spending some time together, do you mind if I tell you a little bit about who we are? I hope you said yes.
Let us introduce ourselves
So again I'm Attorney Erwin Zagala and I'm a practicing lawyer with over 10 years of experience. I graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 2006. Currently, I'm a partner at Legal Access Law Offices, a law firm based in Quezon City. I'm also the lead trainer for Legal Guide Philippines, where I share articles and workshops. I've been giving public seminars and workshops on the law since 2009 and I've authored four legal books, one of which I've co-authored with my partner Atty. Ramon.
Hi, I'm Attorney Ramon Ramirez and I also graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 2006... so that makes us graduates in 2006 because we were classmates. So that also means that I've also been practicing law for more than 10 years now. I started my legal career with SGV, Sycip Gorres and Velayo. It's...for me it's the best tax firm in the Philippines. Internationally, it's also known as Ernst & Young Philippines. After that, I went into the private sector into a global company called I.C.T.S.I. or International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) and I functioned there as their tax manager in the Global Corporate Group. I am also a partner in our law firm, Legal access Law Offices and I am also currently a trainer with a www.legalguide.ph Lastly, I also co-authored our estate settlement book, "Don't Let Your heir down" with Attorney Erwin Zagala.
What we believe as Lawyers
We both believe that the highest service a lawyer can give you is to take away the fear about legal situations. Do you guys agree? Lawyers do this in two ways.
One, by providing legal services to their clients or second, by educating people about the law. Well, we already provide our clients with legal services in our practice.
But what about the rest of you who may not be our clients right now? That's where this video series comes in. We'll focus on educating ALL of you so you don't worry about your legal situations.
Now, why does that happen? It's simple... when you understand the law, you become aware that there is a way out of the mess.
We make you aware of your options to empower you to take the steps to solve the problem. Our job is to make you see available solutions. We love doing this so much, we've made it our mission to simplify the law to help you make better choices.
How do we do this?
In our videos, we explain things in layman language. We assume that you have zero experience with the topic so we teach you from the ground up. We use technical terms only when necessary, and when we do, we explain things to you.
Our materials are short and comprehensive so you get the basics of the law quickly. No fluff. We know you're busy so we identify the important points and we stick to them.
Finally, we put these videos online so you can access them anytime anywhere. We know how important it is to have resources at the time you're dealing with the legal challenge.
When you finish our videos, our intention is that you walk away feeling more confident and secure about your legal situation because now you understand it better.
As lawyers, people consult us all the time. We do it when clients book time with us. We're asked to write legal opinions. Even at parties... as soon as other guests find out we're lawyers, we hear the classic, "Eh Attorney... Paano kung ganito...?"
Or what about, "Musta Attorney?" (I think there's a facebook group called that)
How we plan to help you in the show
In the course of answering thousands of questions, we notice that there are certain questions that keep up coming and popping up over and over again. We consider them FAQ's or frequently asked questions. We will answer one of these burning questions a week for you.
There's a high probability that if someone asked us the question before, you may have it on your mind right now. So let's talk about that with you.
