Singing in the car is awesome!

I discovered something awesome this morning. If you’re using Spotify, you may find this awesome as well. Turns out Spotify has a “Karaoke” version. If you scroll down on your phone, it has the option to display lyrics as the song is playing.

Awesome, right? Instructions to do it on different platforms are here.

When I started seeing the lyrics as the song was playing, I started to appreciate the songs (I thought) I’ve always known. I started to see new layers, new stories, new nuances on the hits that are on my liked playlist. Now, I’m loving the songs more because I experienced them on a deeper level.

The same goes for your business. As you’re doing the day-to-day, I invite you to stop and take a look at “the lyrics of your livelihood”. And what are the lyrics of a business? I’ll show you 3 “lyrics” that your business has and maybe you can sing along with them today. These are...

Legal Documents that serve as lyrics to your business

First, check out your Mission and Vision statement. You “sing-along” to this to experience the soul of your business and the purpose of why you’re doing these things. For me, we take a look and revisit this yearly during our strategic planning session conducted by Miss Anne of DANCHE Training and it never fails to fire us up. I love getting reminded of why we’re doing this in the first place. It makes the day-to-day actions more meaningful because they build up to the bigger why or purpose.

Next, to see how you relate to your employees, check out your employee contracts and handbooks. That shows you how well you move together as a team and how you relate to each other. It also shows how much care you provide to your employees. On the other hand, take a look at job descriptions and performance reviews to appreciate how much your employees contribute to building up your company.

Finally, let’s take a look at how you dance with your clients and customers. You take a look at the order forms, terms of engagement, and the service contracts. They show you the moves each of you makes and the dance both parties do on a daily basis. You get to relive what exactly you do for your clients and what they give you in turn.

Why go thru these Legal Documents?

I know that you know how your business works. After all, you’re in it daily, right? But there’s nothing wrong with stopping from time to time to appreciate what you’ve built up at this point.

After you do this, I’m sure that you’ll see your operations in a different way. You see the underpinnings and frameworks that allow your transactions to move. Once you see the extra layers and not just the mundane day-to-day level, I hope you walk away with more appreciation for your business. That way, you get to dance with your livelihood.

Have a great day ahead!
